When Frank Whitfield co-founded Eden Vision back in 2009 the purpose was simple: Help youth. The way he believed that could be done best was taking youth's entrepreneurial skills which were being mislead and use that as an entry point to serve, educate, and empower them with the necessary life skills. The youth built gardens, sold produce at farmers markets, recorded music, did moving jobs, whatever they could do that was safe, positive, and educational. As EV began to meet with the youth daily, they found themselves creating semester lesson plans, discussing curriculum, and structuring itself as a school. However, EV lacked the skills and resources to fully commit to going in that direction so they continued with the enterprises and programs.
However, times have changed! The Eden Vision team members went into their individual directions, but nonetheless, continued to develop skills and launch other ventures (See Matt's Live School). They have remained in communication and now Frank is reconvening the troops for Eden Vision 2.0.
Eden Vision 2.0 will be a public school dedicated to serving, educating, and empowering this generation. This Innovative, experiential learning based school will equip students with the experience and expertise needed to excel beyond high school. Classrooms will be led by the best caring learning facilitators. Technology will be used as a tool to enhance learning for students. Students will be trained and and engaged in student-led enterprises and service projects that will help build character, leadership, and life skills for the 21st Century. Our model of instruction will be rooted in the best practices of other high performing schools such as KIPP, SEED, and breakthrough.
